Southville Gardening Club
American Alpines from the Rockies to Alaska is the title of the presentation for the Southville Gardening Club on Tuesday 6th May at 7.30pm. Graham Nicholls from the Alpine Society, will be going along to show members some stunning pictures of these wonderful plants in their natural habitat. Alpines are really lovely plants that make a fantastic addition to any garden. Why not go along and find out more? The club hold their meetings at St Paul’s Church, Coronation Road, Southville. Everyone is welcome.
Flower Festival
A Flower Festival will be held in St Paul’s Church, Bedminster on 10th & 11th May to commemorate the decades since the Re-consecration in 1958. This event coincides with the South Bank Arts Trail when art exhibits will be displayed in the Crypt.
Wild West Fair
On Saturday May 17th at 2.15pm, Bedminster Methodist Church, British Road will be holding a “Wild West” May Fair. Stalls will include plants, attic treasures, cakes, toiletries, as-nu, bits & bobs, gifts, books, games etc. Refreshments available. Admission, 20p adults, 10p children .
Spring Fair
Ashton Gate Primary School will be holding their annual Spring Fair on Saturday 17th May between 12pm - 2pm. As usual there will be plenty to do for all the family with activities ranging from football and a bouncy castle, to plate painting and hair spraying! Or try your luck on the Raffle and Tombolas! Other stalls offer you the chance to pick up bargains such as books, toys and plants, and to sample various tasty refreshments. Admission only 30p!
Coffee Morning
Bristol Postal Retired are holding a Coffee Morning with bingo and raffle at Redcatch Community Centre (next to the old library on Redcatch Road) on Wednesday May 28th from 10.00am - 1.00pm. All former Post Office & Royal Mail colleagues/drivers are welcome to attend.
Table Top Sale
There will be a Table Top Sale at Southville Methodist
Church, Stackpool Road, Southville on Saturday 31st May from 10.00am -

Tennis Club
Victoria Park Tennis Club is looking for new members to
play tennis in the Windmill Hill area of Bristol. The club is recognised
by the Lawn Tennis Association and now has approximately one hundred
members. It has two courts and is run by a small committee of
volunteers.
Yearly membership costs £17.50 adult, £5 children (8-16 years) and
entitles members to unlimited tennis from April to March 2009. Group and
family membership is also available. Non-members are welcome to play,
using an ad hoc, pay-as-go system when bowlers are present.
Extensive coaching sessions are available at the courts for local
schools and the wider community on Saturdays throughout most of the year
with extra sessions in school holidays.

FOBS Update
The Friends of Bristol South Pool (FOBS) have elected a new executive committee. Francis Gard (chair), Sean Beynon (secretary) and James Ryle (treasurer) will lead the new executive group. Dates for FOBS meetings for the next year are Monday 21st July, Thursday 23rd October and Monday 5th January (2009). All meetings will start at 7.30pm and will be held at the Southville Centre. Wanted: Judges!
With just a couple of months to go before the start of the 2008 Front Garden Competition local residents are being asked to volunteer as judges. Judges are needed to help award the Good Garden Awards and identify the gardens that make it through to the final for the public to vote to choose the winners. No experience is needed to be a judge as guidance will be given, each judge will have a round of 6 or 7 streets that they have to walk around (at their leisure) between Monday 9th June and Sunday 22nd June. Ashton Vale neighbourhood Beat Surgery will take place at Chessel Street Boys Brigade Hall on the first Tuesday of the month from 7.00 - 9.00pm.
School Surgery, South Street School 2.30 - 3.30pm on the first Wednesday of every
month.
School Surgery, Luckwell Junior School 2.30 - 3.30pm on the last Friday
of every month.
Tuesday Book Club
Bedminster Library is currently looking for new members
to join their book club. It is held on the first Tuesday of the month
from 6.00pm - 7.00pm.
If you enjoy reading and would like to share your experience of books
with others then just pop into the library and pick up the next book.
The library is situated between Asda and Bottelino’s. Everyone is
welcome.

Hear A Child Read
At South Street Primary School the aim is that all their children are readers. In order to achieve this they need some help. Can you spare some time at all to hear a child read? The best times for them are 9.00am, 1.30pm or 3.00pm but they will accept any help that you can give and will provide training to enable you to do your best.

Children’s Meeting
If you have thought of going to Bedminster Quakers but been uncertain how your children would cope with a quiet meeting for worship, they have now started a separate children’s meeting on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month with a variety of activities led by two adult Quakers who have been CRB checked.
They are currently running a programme of children’s meetings on the theme of ‘Caring for One Another: Co-operation, Caring and Community’.
As parents you are welcome to either join your children in their meeting or join the adults in the main meeting house.
